Youth Accommodation Centre

The Julalikari Council Aboriginal Corporation’s Youth Accommodation Centre (YAC) is open and accepting applications.

The YAC has individual ensuited rooms for up to 16 residents, including two-wheel chair accessible units.

The Manager, Linda Kellerman lives onsite and is available to assist residents with day to day issues such as gaining their learner’s permit or driver’s licences, and learning basic skills including keeping a neat and tidy residence and budgeting. They pride themselves in providing a safe and happy environment where residents feel at home.

The facility is drug and alcohol free and provides accommodation for young single Indigenous people aged 18 to 25 who are in training or work. It recently accommodated the students of the Jemena Gas Operator Training Course, and it is envisaged that in the near future additional courses such as Construction and Community Services will be offered. The students will be able to be housed on site for the duration of the courses and given both academic and pastoral support.

The grounds of the YAC are currently receiving a major upgrade and the staff of the Julalikari Land Management Unit are building ecofriendly adobe gardens including fruit trees and bush tucker plants. Community groups and individuals who are interested in inspecting the facility are invited to call Linda on 0407 732 734 to arrange a time to see the Centre.
